Becoming a trustee
Being a charity trustee is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to a cause you care about. Everyone has skills and experiences that could be useful to charities – for example, in marketing, having a good understanding of your local area or an understanding of the cause itself.
You can think of a trustee as a guardian looking out for the organisation's best interests and promoting its aims in the wider world. Trustees guide the organisation. They make sure it's heading in the right direction and doing what it was set up to do. Collectively, trustees are known as the board, and they have a number of formal roles and responsibilities, which include appointing key people and keeping a check on the organisation’s finances and activities. An ideal charity board has the right mix of skills and embraces healthy debate by bringing people from a range of ages, backgrounds, skills and experiences to the table.
Being a trustee is a very rewarding way of volunteering and benefiting the community. Have you got what it takes to make a difference?
